Why do we need Jesus and His Spirit?

The Bible teaches that there is a Will of God in heaven for our lives (Ephesians 1:4-11, Romans 8:29, Matthew 6:10).

In the very beginning of the Bible we see in Genesis that man was made in the very image and likeness of God. This meant that man resembled God, not only in image, but also in nature/character. However, after the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden, man’s nature became sinful because they disobeyed God and obeyed satan. Their disobedience meant that humanity now took on the likeness of satan with his nature, and became opposed to God’s nature. (Genesis 6:5, Romans 6:16, 1 Timothy 2:14, Romans 5:14, Galatians 5:17).

God told Adam and Eve that if they disobeyed, they would surely die. However, we know that Adam and Eve didn’t die naturally, but spiritually. The spirit in them became dead and disconnected with God’s Spirit (Genesis 2:17, Romans 5:12-21, Romans 6:23, Romans 8:11)

The whole rest of the 1st Testament proved that without God, we are destined to fall short of His Glory (Romans 3:23). Therefore, Jesus came to redeem us from the curse in the garden, and from the bondage of sin. (Matthew 5:17, Galatians 1:4, Galatians 3:13). God manifested in the flesh came from heaven to Earth to fulfill the Law and to redeem us from the Law through His Death, Burial, and Resurrection (Romans 6:4-8). The greatest love story ever told, that God Himself became our savior and reversed the curse on mankind. (Isaiah 12:2, Philippians 2:6-8 , 1 Timothy 3:16, Colossians 2:9, John 14:20, Romand 5:8). Now through His Death, Burial, and Resurrection, Jesus extends us an invitation to partake of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).

We do this through obedience to the Gospel and by being in Covenant relationship with Him (Acts 2:38, Acts 5:32, 1 Corinthians 15 2-4, Colossians 2:11-12). Through this New Covenant, Jesus gives us Power from on high (Luke 24:49, Acts 1:8) to fulfill the life that He has called us to. We are able to do this through His Spirit, by constantly living in accordance with His Will for our lives here on earth as it is in heaven.
